Dear Momofuku,
I am afraid of going to the dentist. This is because of a) the cost and b) the pain. This fear has been exacerbated in the last ten years, which is coincidentally the time during which I have not had any dental insurance. I have placated my denial by not ever flossing. If I continue to live this way, is it possible that I will be fine and the problem will go away? p.s. My gums are insanely receded. If that affects your advice.

Dear Smiling,
On page 146 of Thus Spake Momofuku, Momofuku Ando's collection of famous sayings, he reminds us: "The hands of a clock are not counting down time. They are counting down your life." Start flossing.
